the unofficially cool MTB drop bar thread

I find lots of these bikes are very cool. But I have a question: What is the point to put drop bars on your bike if you will never use the drops?

I found the drops very good for getting some speed off road, just I personally can't get on with riding on the tops! I find them hideously uncomfortable even with additional tape and padding...my wrists just don't go there anymore 😂

Im not sure the control was overly great either....basically its like riding on 450mm flat bars....fun, but ultimately suicidal imho.

Haha, you are right...
I am just doing the opposite, changing the drop bar for a Scott AT 2 handlebar with thumbshifters on a cyclocross bike. Then I can tell which one is better looking and more practical.

Here is my latest drop bar conversion project in mid build. The base is an MS Racing Pro Comp XT frame I bought for parts with a generic threaded fork. Build is 9 speed ultegra barends, tektro levers, some generic alloy drops in 31.8, acera vbrakes with amazon generic travel agents, some araya rm20 / deore dx wheels, and a mix of DX and LX drivetrain bits. Saddle is a placeholder from a used touring bike I bought from the bike charity I volunteer at.
