Orange identification help, please.

Sounds exactly like my 1993 clockwork frame that I have just gifted away.

Lets face it, unless the frame is weighed & compared to a known sample of the same size, then there is no sure fire way to differentiate a 92/93 prestige from a 92/93 clockwork.

Either way, £50= a bargain and a half!

Well other than find the tube thickness through sound signature, cutting it or some other such test on the material... :?

.. do they both have the same size of ovalising at the seat tube / bottom bracket interface ?

You know, the more I read of various peoples Orange frames, the more I reckon the biggest difference between the early Clockwork & Prestige is the decals. :D

Yeah, that all sounds about right and fits with the pictures I've seen. The frame is in an completely different leage to my 1990 Konas, so thin and neatly welded. I remember lusting after an Orange with Pace forks back in the early 90s, while flicking through the pages of MBUK. I think I'll get rid of the single speed set up and probably run 8 speed XT if I can get the parts cheap enough. The bloke got in touch again and says he has dug out some old shifters and a front mech - top fella! Oh and I think the 'bars are titanium too - a good buy for £50!

linked from your other thread.

Wow what a great deal, i paid more than that for my Prestige frame. and 2.5 times for some Pace Rigid forks!

BITD I had a early 1991 Orange, still don't know if it was a Clockie or Prestige, badged as a Prestige naturally. My 1993 prestige weighs in at about 4.5lbs.
Orange was teh best bike I had BITD, and to a certain extent ever! I will find out if those rose tinted specs were right at some point. sweet bike, hang onto it. Also RE SS, on some terrain its a great thing to have.

I had another look at the bike at the weekend, it is actually a 1992 frame, I got the numbers wrong. I took the forks to pieces - so very, very basic! I've asked justbackdated about some new elastomers and top seals. Thankfully the seatpost wasn't stuck in, it was well lubed with copperslip. The handlebars are titanium though I couldn't find a manufacturer.

I've bought a pair of DX mechs, some TA chainrings, some XT v-brake levers and a pair of Onza Porcupines to finish it off. As soon as I'm back in the UK project Shoestring is go!
