Orange. . . . .Formula?????

Thats, erm, quite high... What would be the purchasers purpose in buying it? Is it one of the Orange founders maybe?

Well at that kinda price it's going to be someone who really wants it and not a flipper..unless bbc bikes are branching out uk style :D but I also wondered if someone at Orange was trying to buy back some family jewels?

Me personally I think I would prefer the zinn.

That's quite high.

And I just checked out about the Tushingham story/tread that you alluded to.

Whilst I am very interested in the history of Orange I think it's made me realise that searching for one isn't for me. My own love for Orange came from the graphics and style of the logo and the styling of the frame with the mono stay, hence the 91 Formula doing it for me - I'm an aesthetic collector I guess not a historical one. I begged my parents for an Orange race shirt from a windsurfing shop near Delamere just because it looked amazing with it's massive Orange spots...

I only alluded to the whole thing, because i feel there is a lot more to the story, that may become apparant, i for one have my fingers crossed.... 8)

So tonight I saw my first ever Orange Formula :D

I had a good look over the bike and took pictures with the sellers camera which he loaned me – these are numerous so I’ll just keep adding them to the thread.

Measurements:
Seat tube c – t 19.25
Seat tube c – c 16.5
Top tube c – c 21.5

➡️ Paint is original I think – the white and orange are the same as on my Prestige.
➡️ It has the debossed orange logo on the seat tube collar and it is fillet brazed, including the fork crown.
➡️ The seatpost is seized.
➡️ There has been a welded repair to the non drive side of the fast back seat stay. This is the reason for the dark paint in this area. There is a linear indication in the weld – I scraped at it with a screwdriver, it is crack like but could just be a untidy weld toe. Not that it matters as you would do a decent brazed repair to this anyway.
➡️ There is a pump mount on the non drive side seat stay.
➡️ There is corrosion coming through the paint (blistering a bit) at the base of the seat tube. I stabbed at it as much as I could on someone else’s bike with a screw driver and it seems solid enough.
➡️ No dents and it looks straight.

Equipment:

➡️ cheap chainset, bars, seatpost, saddle.
➡️ m735 rear mech
➡️ m700 deerhead front mech :!:
➡️ m231/deore LX rear wheel, araya vp20 front wheel
➡️ m734 cantis – Aztec pads.
➡️ deore lx brake levers with xt shifter pods.
➡️ flexstem

The seller is a thoroughly nice chap and has contacted the high bidders to inform them of the seized seat post and weld repair to the seat clamp.

Its going to take some work to get it right but it will be worth it :D

Good luck to the winner, would be good to see it on here, I am out of the game at this price.
