On One Parkwood

Awful pics. I'll grab the camera next time.

Update 27/1/15
Been on the bike a lot more this winter as knee is holding out for a while. Wet winter riding this is so much easier than my trekker, probably as it weighs so much less!

Post ride on Sunday (bro had taken the trekker out).

Mud seems to have started taking most of the coating off the crank arms but this is inevitable I guess

Am looking into changing the Onza Cani on the rear for a specialized storm as the mud here is so bad, a specific tyre might help out. Not had a grip problem so far, but if it helps dig in a bit, that suits me.

Specialized storm tyre now fitted. Icy night ride at Haldon tomorrow planned...

Thread pattern seems better for the mud that's everywhere here at the moment but I remain a huge fan of the onza lynx tyres. Bit skinny (the specialized) at 2.0 ... Looks ridiculously small in the frame!

Re:

Great tyres ;)

Have them on the Pace and they have not stopped me in the mud where others have failed , they seem to clear very quickly which is good.

Look forward to seeing your thoughts after the first outing, go get muddy

Bit icy, bit muddy last night.

First few miles of the blue at Haldon was fun, moonlight was bright and I was nearly keeping pace with my fellow nightrider. Then I pinched flatted on the new tyre (grrr...). Took me ages to get new tube in, and rode the rest solo as he had to shoot on.

But, the tyre is great, definately a little more grip, but the 2.0" width takes some getting used to after running 2.25s for a few months.

Ghetto tubeless (first time for me tubeless) is the next step, likely to be an epic fail given it took so long to get the specialized tyre on the shimano rims (really tight?) so I will post up how not to do that when the bits arrive for everyone's general amusement

Re:

My 29'er is tubeless with Rocket Rons on Stans rims.

I followed the Stans instructions to the letter and the tyres inflated first time with my track pump and have been there ever since.

Jon has his own way of doing tubeless, which apparently is quicker, but how puddles of latex gloop on my garage floor and constant reinflating of tyres is quicker I don't know.

There is also the added bonus of running slight lower pressures, which helps a bit with both traction and in cushioning some of the worts hits on the trail.

I would buy some stans as an upgrade at some stage, which might be sooner rather than later as think my rear has got a buckle, but not sure if it was tyre not seating well on the rim.

I've watched a hundred videos so know in theory what to do but I will no doubt follow Jon's method of swearing and mess. Something to do when it's a night off riding at least!
