On-One: Fat Chancer retro steel frame

Don't have a problem with companies bringing back their own retro names but to pinch someone elses is just plain nawty (said in a Danny Dyer voice).

Have no issues with On-One and know my pal likes his 29er but think they're taking the p*ss with this one. All we need now is for Ragley to showcase their new square tubed RC1000 and Si's head will fall off!

It's not the first time this has happened, does anyone else remember the Dawes Fat Chance?

British company-check
Poor quality-check
Heavy-check
Not a patch on a real Fat Chance-check

Maybe on-one were trying to emulate the Dawes fat chance as there is a lot more in common than with the other one?

You're kidding. I always thought Dawes had the name first and Chris Chance copied....

Man alive! what's up with you guys?

First of all, I have an On One 456 and I can honestly tell you that the quality of welds on my frame is amazing! Paint is great too. How can you knock it for less than 200 quid?

Its good to see a UK based company [ok, I know the frames are made elsewhere, pretty much like everyone elses now] giving us the option to have cheap good quality frames. They are even talking about doing custom paint jobs.

If On One have seen a gap in the market and gone for it, good on em!

If you think about it, lots of industries products models that pay homage to a ledgendary product or brand. BMW even hijacked the Mini!

Every time a new product that comes along to bring the retro spirit back to bikes we slate them [see Breezer thread] We should really congratulate them.

Rant over

Ride and smile,

Chaser

"BMW even hijacked the Mini!" I think can argue they paid for it.

I don't have an issue with any cheap, low spec frame, but I agree with most other people on this thread that on-one have set themselves up by creating the comparision with the yo-eddy, and not just leaving it at hi-jacking the name.

Ok, maybe not a perfect example...

How many kit car companies have paid homage to the famous Lotus 7... Locost 7, Westfield Speed Sport etc...

Think thats a fair analogy, to me those cars( bar the caterham) look shit. Invariably shonky, poorly finished made out of scrap and never quite right, purists will balk but they must find a place in someones garage.
