A nice ride, looking forward to seeing some pictures of your old bike.

So whats your plans Steve, have you a build in mind?

Yeah, you're right, I've not even contemplated the 'for sale' section yet, probably a good idea if I don't for the moment.

tbh, I'm looking into getting back into mountain biking, and I just put alpinestars cro-mega into a google search, and here I am, after a quick read through your rebuild thread. The basic spec of my old bike was:

numerous rear mech's - (ended up with a short arm Shimano 105)
52t chain ring, shortened seatpost (420mm was always too long!!) shortened bars, velo ti seat, lizard skins on the brake levers, ditched the crappy sti levers (after going through about 10 sets and pi55ing my local bike dealer off) for a set of XT over bar shifters, often had a Scott AT4pro hanldebar system thingy fitted, and a million and one bloody BB's (river riding on a weekly basis.

Geting excited on doing a retro build now!!!! lol.

Oh yeah, and I nearly forgot - - TYRES

Tioga 'Farmer John's' - original rubbish
Panaracer Smoke - dozens of pairs
Onza Porcupines (all blacks) - the best tyres ever, unless you rode on tarmac and then they lasted about 2 days!!!! lol.

And some fancy brake pads which were unbelieveable in the wet!

Well best of luck Steve and once again welcome to retrobike. I'm sure a bike or project will come along soon that takes your fancy and you'll be back riding in no time.

Might be worth checking out the 'ride out' competition at the top of the 'retro mtb chat' page, might get you back riding sooner than expected

A friend of mine was commuting 100 miles a week on one of those until early this year when the threads in the bottom bracket shell gave out. It was the same as the one in the second photo. He gave the frame away and I dont know what happened to it after that!!!

Looking at the pictures again I think it was yellow at the front!!! :?

ooooh, if it's the yellow one, and you can find it, I'd be VERY interested in it.

It was in a bit of a state when I last saw it, but I'll ask him tomorrow if he knows where it is now. And what colour it was!!!

Cheers for that, and please bare in mind that condition is probably a little bit less important (to me) than the colour.

....welcome steve......to the next thing to take over your life!!.....the sun always shines here..... 8)

I asked my mate today. It is the yellow one and the guy that has it now is apparantly a member of this forum, although I dont know his username. My mate sent him an email with a link to this thread and he said he would post something up fairly soon. Fingers crossed!!!
