My frame is from 1989/90 i.e. when top pull mechs didn't exist or at least were hard to come by, so a bit of adaptation was required... Unlike your frame I don't have a cable stop on the seat tube, so you have to use a special part that fits into the mech (see photo). The cable then runs down to the hole (on the BB shell) where it's clamped.
A cable stop and roller means you can use a standard bottom pull mech without the modification.
