Purely out of boredom I picked up a copy of MBUK for the first time in about 12 years....I'm totally confused :?

What the hell is All Mountain and Enduro?

What is Slopestyle?

Why do all the bikes look the same? (but in different colours..)

Are Cube bikes as nice as they look?

Why do I feel like I've landed on another planet?

Shouldve bought The Guardian instead....at least I can understand the words...

Yours Truly,
Confused of Bedford...

All Mountain is what we used to call going for a ride, you know, in the days when Jonny T used to compete in the downhill, xc and trials events on the same bike.

Enduro is what we used to call going for an all day ride

Bikes are like cars now - they all look the same except for the colour and the stickers, probably all made in the same factory....

..just stay here where you know you're safe, noone out there understands you like we do.

  Love it, perfect description

Seems to me its just a marketing ploy nowadays

Got to say that I've been given a few issues and reckon its better than before. Well the late 90's when I stopped reading it anyway. As for slopestyle...... some might argue it doesn't have much to do with MTB'in but these guys are amazing, really jaw dropping stuff. I've seen some of the new world disorder(?) stuff and it takes your breath away. I don't believe its just the suspension either.

Pure class........and SO true. 8)

I subscribe and I am thinking of cancelling. It all seems to be Dirt Jumping and Freeride or North Shore or whatever they call it! The kit reviews are usually the same as in What MTB anyway and I think that is a bit better. God am I getting old?

Trevor.

Thanks for all the support, Pete nailed it totally....I'll stay hiding here if its ok with the rest of the world

I felt like a grandparent at a teenies disco reading that mag...

Don't forget MBUK did a feature on retrobike a month back - they can't be bad eggs.

Anyhow I think MBUK has always been the 'yoof' mag, since way way back in the day. When XC racing was king in the early 90s that's what it followed. When DH and jumping took off in the mid to late 90s their emphasis switched there. And so it continues.

Some of their stunts etc. do seem far far removed from what we do on our rigid steel bikes. Don't forget it was ever thus though - from Jez Avery, Jamie 'Captain Freefall' Tatlow and Mike 'BlastOff' Batt hopping 30 plus inches, to that chap on his haro riding a halfpipe to hemming take big air on his Yo Eddy.
