Merlin frame sizes vs other makers

Hi,
Im wondering how the Merlin frame sizes correspond to other makers. (I realise that it might sound stupid/strange) however from my limited experince I have found that the same frame size in inches can differ alot between the makers.

Since I ride a Rocky Mountain and Yeti (most for show) I would be grateful if some one could advise me on how the merlin frames correspond to the above makers.

note: im 5´9 / 178cm and usually ride frames up to 17´5

I'm 5'10" and my '92 Merlin is 18" to top of seat tube, 17" c-c. Top tube 22" c-c, this is a good fit for me.

yepp thats great info mate.

The merlin frame that I have seen is an oldie with threaded headset and threaded fork. Is it possible to convert them to non thread? Dont know many suspensions that come threaded. Correct me if im wrong about that.

As you guys can tell im new to this game and have a bit to learn

On at least early 90s Merlins, the 17.5" has 585mm toptube and 18.75" has 600mm toptube. So the 17.5" should be maximum size for you.

Well, that is a 17.5" frame and it's 1994 or older.

why dont people just keep it bloody simple and say its 17.5" when putting an add. (sorry just my two cents.)

How can it be a 17.5" frame if it's 19.5" c to c? Please explain.

The only accurate way to find out the year is to get the serial number and check it on the Merlin website. I never knew if mine was a '96 or '98, I checked on the website and it's smack in between as a '97.
