Maguras - tell me about them

I wouldn't want to use anything else. I know someone on a tour who lost all the fluid in a crash. No problem he just replaced it with vegetable oil! The very early ones were a bit all or nothing. This was soon sorted though.

i wont ride with anything else.

I have a set of raceline "D" from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back and I have never serviced them apart from fitting new pads.....and that takes about 10 seconds per wheel.

Just get yourself a set of the '20th Anniversary' editions, the ano red should suit your RTS  fit..fairly straightforward with the new evo mounts... and go for it.

They are undoubtedly the best rim brakes available, the feel of good cantis with the power of Vs and then some.......don't even think about running them without the boosters

As for maintenance.........errr what maintenance, fit and forget...the most time consuming part of replacing the pads is removing the wheels 8)

I bought a blue set on here a few months ago for £40, a bit tatty but I'm going to repaint them one day...
There's been a few sets on here for around that price....red ones will always be more money cos of some corporate branding bollocks...

I managed to pick up a set of NOS Tomac red ones for a similar price, so keep an eye out for a good deal ;)

After reading all the comments on here, I think the price and maintenance aspect means I'll hunt out a decent pair and give them bad-boys a go.

However, would they be easy to fit to my RTS? Is this a job I could do in my shed, or would it mean an LBS trip?

If you can take a set of cantis out of the packet and fit them, then Maguras will be fine. Adjusting them is fiddly, but it's a 1-off job unlike cantis with pads on posts.

It'll take you a couple of hours of quality shed time. The instructions are excellent. Follow them carefully and all will be well.

I've got them on my Raleigh touring bike that I do the weekly shop on :) stop laughing, don't knock it until you've tried it

So for about 10 years as well as general riding duties they've also had to put up with stopping a bike that isn't light in the first place along with front and back panniers stuffed to the brim with our weekly shop

The only thing I've done in that time is change the pads  I've never weighed it fully loaded but its a hell of a weight and the brakes have never struggled :) top brakes :)

I rest my case. 8)
