Looking for a wheel builder

My last single wheel build,

Wheel Build labour £24.47
32 DT comp spokes £26.56
Single rim tape £2.44

Total £53.47 which for a pair would come to £106.94

Some of the basic kit required to build at home (no you do not need a huge Park or Kestrel truing jig or Var dishing tools at home)

M Part Pro spoke key £5.99
Minoura Junior Truing jig £39.99
Minoura dishing tool £16.99
Roger Musson Wheelbuilding PDF 5th edition £9

And if you feel flush a Park Tools TM-1 spoke tension meter is around £35

£40 a wheel including materials is'nt too bad, my LBS quoted me £56 per wheel, found another place to do it for £60 odd the pair so it pays to shop around.
That £60 a pair would probably translate to about £40 for a single wheel...

my lbs that build my matrix rims up charged £16 per wheel labour & 80p per spoke x 32 = £42.60 or there abouts. may have been less if i'd had them done together, i don't know. i do know that once they'd bedded in he trued them up foc & he used dt evo spokes that were 80p before the price hike, but then i have known him 20 yrs.
so i agree, 40 sniffs a wheel isn't bad, not cheap but as said above, you're getting a hand built wheel. buying hubs, rims & getting your lbs to build them always has & will be more expensive than off the shelf (mavic straight pull £125 a pair) takes your choice & pays yer money!
