Kona Ku Serial Number List - update 19/09/25

You know me, OG wins almost every time, especially on a custom frame. Just look at the state of the "top gun" Hot as a recent example.

The paint isn't the problem, re-creating the decals is but I trust your judgement 👍

A further consideration point. As a later Ku with a seat-stay bridge, the SN is the key to ID'ing the frame, along it's OG patina. If the SN is lost in repainting, which is often the case, it becomes that much harder to resale in the future. I'd add that IF there's any intention to sell in the future, and there's an expectation to recoup costs, I'm afraid that's highly unlikely.

Effectively, why repaint a custom frame? Just get a Kula and save a stack of cash.
Serial number is still clearly visable following the new paint job

respray is not a crime, when the final result looks like yours :) love how it turned out and from the pics. the finish looks ace 👍
Very true Martin..if you remember I had the rear stays resprayed on the Ku{ the one you helped me buy}..the paint guy did a great job matching in, he also did the paint job on both KU and Stars/Bars Hot forks

Really great job, well worth the effort and no doubt cost. List updated accordingly:

Almost done. Just needs a chain and I’ve got a shorter Control Tech stem on route

Here’s a question for Ku owners but likely also other Kona models

So we are all aware of the glow in dark decals which came out late 90s /00s but possibly i can reveal something I’ve never seen mentioned.

Our garage is in complete darkness as it has no windows. Which means I never go in there without first turning a light on.

Last night I was passing through as I had to go out late but didn’t want to turn any lights on as my daughter was just going bed on the way back through 5 mins later.

So as I walked through the garage trying not to trip I saw a faint glow from one side where a couple of bikes were stood.

Well to cut a long story short it seems that my 98/99 Green Ku glows in the dark. It loses the glow after about 5 mins and then gets “charged up” again when exposed to light.

These pics are unedited and there is an orange Ku and a white Zaskar to the side of it which are completely hidden by the darkness.

I’ve chatted with @al-onestare and it seems like the first time this has been talked about.

Or radioactive

I have a Glow in the dark frame, used to have it hanging in the bedroom, actually lit the room a bit at night.
