these liners are teflon (PTFE) hydraulic hoses. the brand and size should be printed in blue on the liner. plenty of sources on google.

Hi Del,

yup, that's me. That forum was a Yahoo group that a friend of mine in Chicago started and i took it over from him. It died because somebody posted obscene pictures and thus it was removed :( We had a nice collection of serial numbers of the different models, all got lost...

Hi Carsten...

What a bugger !!! That was such a handy Chat group for info on Kleins etc ! Like said, thats where I found my Burg/Blue Adroit which I still have and drool over very much !! I also bought my second Moonrise from Berndt (German guy, really nice fella, remeber him!) Only just had it stolen from my garage recently !!

Cant remember whether you already saw it on the stolen bike thread !!

Anyways, good to hear your still retro biking and hopefully this forum should stay alive for a long time to come !!

All the best fella

Del..

P.S Of all the Carsten's in this world that was a bloody long shot me asking if you were the same guy from years back on that yahoo forum !! Amazing really !!!! SMALL PLANET ! ! ! ! !

if the plastic liner is still inside of the frame first pull it out. it is likely that the part that stuck out of the frame broke off and you will have a hard time to get the cable routed through the liner and then out of the exit hole.
to pull it out carefully srew a wood screw into the liner at the cable entry. the liner widens at the end so it cannot slip into the tube. you may need some tries, if you screw it in too deep it will widen the liner and make it stuck. if the screw has grabbed the liner pull it out.

you cannot use that liner anymore if it is too short but it is not reccommended to leave the liner in the frame anyhow, it is only meant as help to route the cables and should be taken out then to make shifting easier. i only put the liners on the cables where they exit the frame to prevent them from rubbing on the frame. they only run a few centimeters inside the frame so they are fixed. the rear brake cable liner runs from the cable exit to the brake bridge.

if you re-run the shifter cables anyhow consider routing the left cable through the right entry hole and vice versa. as they need to exit the frame on the opposite side they will cross each other inside of the downtube. that way they will make a nice wide loop around the head tube (enhances shifting) and they will not rub on the head tube. if you like the front brake on the right lever you can route the brake cable around the head tube as well. look much cleaner as well imho...

Hi,

Trying to replace the liner in the top tube for the rear brake on a Klein Attitude 92.
Pulled the sleeve out of the frame, and managed to get a shift cable through the top tube to the other side.
When i put the liner over the shift cable, and guide it into the frame from the rear side it only goes in about 8 centimeters.
So it seems there is still the broken old liner in the frame?Read a post from you pulling it out with a screw for the shift cables.
Just to sure,so if i screw a little woodscrew into the cable entry i can pull out the old liner?

Or leave the old liner in place, and use only a short piece of new liner to exit the frame?

Regards Sven

Personally I'd want to get the old liner out.

I had a thought on how you could do this but it's just a thought.

Cut the end off a cable crimp so it's hollow. Slide it on and rimp this on to the cable way up so you have lots of spare cable. Pull it through, hopefully it should then allow you to pull the sheath out a bit and remove .

Reverse the pull, remove the crimp, slide new sheath over and through to the other side.

At this point I'd remove the cable and flare the sheath somehow so it doesn't pull through, then refit the cable.

Like I said, a thought that may work in practice.
