Not sure exactly what the frame is, but the components are good mid-range stuff. If the condition is good, I'd say £200 is reasonable.

Thanks for your help, I'm going to look this afternoon. He said that the price is as described with sprint tyres that have the tyre sewn shut around the inner tube, but has a set of (normal to me) wheels fitted currently and would like an extra ton, am I about to get ripped off? Sounds like a nice enough guy on the phone.

An extra £100 for clinchers ("normal" tyres, if you prefer) instead of sprints?? No! Stick with the tubs (tubeless, glued on) and offload the wheels on here or ebay if you really can't get on with them. Then get some clinchers for plenty less than £100... But give them a go; they ride better than normal tyres.

Well it's mine, bought the whole thing for £280, it's a specialized Allez. The wheels and tyres are brand new and are 8sp whereas the old set was 7sp. I've put a spare saddle on and pedals on. The 27.2 seatpost weighs in at 320g, could probably save a huge chunk of weight there for not a lot of money!

I had It's currently running 13-24 7sp, I've got a 12-25 8sp cassette, does the 105 rear mech have the reach to go 8sp? Think I'm going to get some down tube shifters instead of where they are now.

It weighs around 21lbs so a bit lighter than I'm used to!

Bikepedia says 1999 is Aluminium so that pins it down a bit.

Yes, your 105 rear mech has the reach for 8 speed. Make sure you get the right index levers if you're going that way.

Never mind the seatpost, get some plain bar tape on there! :)

In terms of "bang for your buck", you might get more from getting some lighter tyres rather than seatpost. Not sure what they are on there, but they look like they might be quite heavy. Also, you could go for a pair of combined brake lever/8 speed shifters rather than downtube shifters; I expect you could pick up a pair of used 105 for a reasonable price.

They're touring tyres, and if they're as good as the old Top Touring then they should be pretty bombproof. See how they ride, and if you decide you want something more sprightly for the summer, then there are plenty of good lighter ones you could try. Even with these on, it will probably feel like you're floating along compared to a mountain bike.

I'm pretty sure the shifters should work fine, but I have never used Shimano levers/shifters, so try to get a second opinion on this before committing...

Looks like the weather's set fair for your ride tomorrow. Hope it rides well.
