I had one of these back in the 90s. It was my first not-junk bike. This one is extremely original.

The seat is original, and the minimal amount of wear on that is an even better indicator that this bike has been minimally used than the mint-looking paint is. I recognise the chainset, stem, brakes, rear mech, shifters, seat post and wheels as original. I think only the tyres and Onza bar-ends aren't original.

(Obviously, back then I changed everything at the first hint of some paper-round money, because I wanted it to be my bike.)

Also, it's 20 miles from me. If it was just a good-condition frame I'd probably buy it and build it up to the spec that I wished I had the money for back then, for old time's sake. As it is it feels too perfect to ruin.

Honestly if I could find a home for a whole load of ancient Altus parts I'd probably end up doing it anyway. Or not, and doing it anyway.

I suppose this is the wrong place on the Internet to look for someone to talk me into not buying an old mountain bike for nostalgic purposes, isn't it?

I think you’re asking the impossible of the wrong set of people. I got around this buying an old bike for nostalgia reasons issue by never getting rid of the old bike in the first place.
