Is there a modern MTB destin to be a retro classic ?

Slidey dropout VooDoos (Wanga?)...
Similar to your Kona: SImple; Old-school kudos; Joe Murray connection etc.

Turners:
Because they haven't sold up and relocated off-shore; they don't cut corners and you can still contact DT himself for spares and support.

Nicolai:
Same as Turner.

Cannondale headshock BadBoy:
Spawned a whole category of bikes; Imitated (poorly) by everyone.

(though the C'dale approach to "customer service" [cough!] and instant obsolescence is the opposite of the long-running support offered by Hope, Phil Wood, Turner...)

Slightly older:
The original Santa Cruz Heckler, Chameleon etc: Proper; Simple; U.S. made; No fancy shock or linkage gimmicks; great ride.

I can't think of any more - I don't know much about new bikes.

I think I'm trying to rewrite history ( for tall people! ) with my Karate Monkey ( now the logos are falling off I'll get some classier ones in a retro style ). Nine speed thumbies, ti seatpost and brown saddle. All I want now is some lighter disc brakes but it does have a whole " retro ethic " going for it.

I'm liking the Sycip brothers work a lot, some lovely machinery!

Hunter Cycles seem to have taken the Bontrager mantle by producing solid-looking frames.......but if I was gonna go custom I'd go Groovy!

I'd agree with "cornholio's RC200".
The Vit-Ti that has been re-released, producing only 21. One for each year of manufacture by Orange.
Biketreks in Ambleside have sold one recently to a guy who (as i was informed by staff) was never gonna ride it, but keep it as a collectors item. Each bike shop is only supposed to receive 1 bike, but they've managed to get another one. It's upstairs, if u happen to be passing. It is gorgeous, but @ £3k a little too much for me at the mo'.
The Vit-Ti anniversary limited edition is a collectors bike now, and will only be more special in future.

Sycip, Indie Fab, Seven etc etc.. All the stuff I can't afford  Just like BITD when I could never afford Fat Chance, Ibis, ti exotica etc etc 8)

Some things never change  Still I'll keep riding what I've got & keep chasing the dream...
