BOTM could be moderated much more heavily. if we didn't have 3 pages of two blokes reminding us how much they know about the history of brand XYZ it would be much better. there should only be the pictures of the entry bikes, and description from the owners of the bikes. everything else is irrelevant to the voting competition

Agreed, big a fan as I am of Sinnermans quality builds, the pages of sycophantic canvassing that supported the JMC tribute left me reaching for both the sick bucket and the phone number of Mit Romneys campaign team, who clearly needed the assistance of a professional vote winner.

1 entry as per the rules, then commentary from the entrant to a minimum.

In answer to the initial question, is it too elitist? No it isn't it is a show, Just as a morris minor can win best of show at a vintage car rally, a Saracen, Raleigh or Marin etc stands equal chance of winning the BOTM.

I guess in my mind the issue comes down to the criteria people themselves impose on the vote. Some vote for originality others because they just like the bike, others seemingly because its worn out and knackered from years of use by the same person.

If there are not enough people that value things in the same way you do, you won't see your winner win. But don't blame the competition for the rules that you personally apply to it.

Anyone notice that most entires and defenders are international? I guess un-ridden show bikes are the retro scene in most other countries but in the UK prominence and history are more important than dollar value.

But I have no problem with a frame that's been restored, possibly at great expense... It's when it then sits in someone's living room occasionally having NOS parts hung off it

Thanks for that link, would never have read it otherwise :D

All a 'good history' seems to require is spending the same money, but spending it in the distant past.

Can't see the problem if a bike's timeline kicks off now instead of 20 years ago.

I don't see the problem - "the UK inner circle" or "self promoting band of brotherhood" vote for each other anyway.

Cor, some of you lot have got out of bed the wrong side!

BOTM is fine as it is, it's a bike show after all and it's not always the most expensive bike that wins.

As for entering less then period correct builds with some modern parts or whatever.... I'm sure you like your bike, I probably do too but don't be suprised when it doesn't win.

I've maybe entered BOTM once or twice, certainly no more. This is because my builds are rarely up to the standard I'd vote for. I don't worry about it or feel anything's missing from my life and I defo don't need the rules changing so I can enter more bikes.

I'm a fan of homemade cakes but sometimes it's only a shop bought garibaldi that hits the spot.

At what point does it become too much for the Prols to be able stomach?

Point fingers, name names. Get it out in the open

Run them off, they aren't what you want retrobikers to be
