Sending an old frame to a paintshop/frame builder with your credit card number and telling them to fix it is not a skill, its a measure of the size of your wallet.

Calling Mr. Chance and asking him to build you a C26 with an old FRO and some carbon tubes you bought on e-bay does not require any more skill than managing to get his address right on the initial parcel (first build of this excepted... that required vision).

I tend not to vote for builds like the above. I like bikes with a good story, historical significance or some kind of personal connection.

As someone who just returned a 1992 frame to it's original builder to have the top tube replaced and the frame resprayed, what would you suggest I should have done, as I have neither the skills nor the tools to do either job myself.

So, if i got a real good taste of retro bikes, i have the knowledge of the "nice" parts which fit together, i have money i can spend and a lot of good ideas, and i really LIKE old bikes, but i'm not good at repairing or painting, then it's not a nice build :roll:

This thread would do it very well on the German forum :roll:

No, I would not expect anything but an appraisal of what the frame now looks like, compared to what it looked like before the work, but that's not what you said, although I do now understand the point you are making.

For my own part, I've lost interest in BOTM, for the reason's I stated earlier.

Yeah, touched a nerve, but more for the "narrowminded" view

The only thing i want to say is that i don't care less if someone wants to spend a lot of money, for me it's how the build looks like in the end, and there's always a story with it. One better than the other i have to admit.

The not a nice build was a bit clumsy, but forgive me i'm not a native English speaker......

But now i have to finish my elitist bike for probably the most elite BOTM ever

Anyone notice that most entires and defenders are international? I guess un-ridden show bikes are the retro scene in most other countries but in the UK prominence and history are more important than dollar value.

But I have no problem with a frame that's been restored, possibly at great expense... It's when it then sits in someone's living room occasionally having NOS parts hung off it :roll:
