Interloc Center Pull Progressive (like u-brake only better)

awesome post, one-eyed-jim!

Thank you. Thos hogans are nice, but getting into the 90's, there are plenty of high end non-shimano mtb canti brakes to choose from.

Those modolos look interesting. So it's boiling down to these three:

Mafac
Modolo
Dia Compe

I like the Mafac route myself. Seems the most natural choice.

Thanks, and, yes, that seems to be the concensus. 84-86 seemed to be a transition from when mtb used parts from other genres segments like touring/road/bmx to really developing into their own segment with specialized parts...IRD was a big part of this, but they had no front brakes :(

anyone know of any obscure, cali or pacific northwest companies making mtb cantis at the time?

I take it your committed to the fork? Could replace it with a u-brake compatible one?

Yep, I commited to the fork as it's color and geometry matched perfectly to the frame, and rides really well.

Is there such thing as an adapter to run U or rollercam brakes on a canti fork?

What about the SE pedersen brakes? Mombat have them fitted to a 87 Otis Guy. Not sure when they came out though.

By 87, the design was bought by Suntour, I believe, and it would be a bit late. The SE Pedersen pre-suntour might work.

But then I don't know how I would feel about running SE Pedersen SE cantis on the front, since I read on the sheldon brown site, that they tend to lock up, or are at least tricky to modulate.

I've ridden a set of them before, didn't really lock them up, but it also wasn't a real trail.

Anyone have experience with the SE Pedersen setup on the front?

just did a little more reading...

moots mounts!

That's what I need; just one set for the front :D

wtb also had a set of cantilevers, but I'm thinking they might be 1988 or so...the early speedmasters.

Now, where will I find these. I'd rather have the Moots Mounts :D

anyone know if one pair that's available?

More reading for you here maybe?: http://mombat.org/WTB.htm
The WTB cantis were '93... and not particularly good.

Yes, though I do know that ff gets it wrong sometimes, thank you for the clarification and the review- I appreciate it. I guess WTB only made rollercams in the 80's, is that right?

So the wtb brakes are out, not that I was high on them- I really want the Moots Mounts, and I've already placed a wanted ad for them over in the wanted forum.

Though I've bid on a set of Mafac just in case, or in the mean time
