Innovations that weren't...

They were very light, stiff frames at the time - that's why.

A race quality construction is different to cargo!

Ask anyone professionally servicing bikes 20 years ago. 👍

I image they are in the same ballpark as everyone else now their product is far east factory output.
Weird to think that back them race frames were made with a shelf life in mind. As long as they could survive a season or two that was acceptable! Thinking of some of the really light steel frames too.

Saying that, plenty of carbon frames these days have a weight limit that is easy enough for a fully loaded rider to breach (although you don't see many broken ones).

We don´t need that blue hand made by lizard skins, but I bought it. And rode many years with that ... I don´t know why because today I will not even look at it. On the rear of course.

Every time I see that Megamo Radical I want to sell all my retro stuff. I love so much ... I miss her a lot. It was brand new, nice ride .... why I have sold it 🥺

I see quite a lot of broken ones.

Aside from the style mentioned above, recently we've seen:

Clean snap across the seat tube under the seatpost end.

Toptube cracked along its length
Downtube folding in on itself

Stay failure due to damage

Headtube opening out

Pushfit bb falls out🤣

A common reason for disposal though is unstoppable noise.
Layers of laminate moving against each other, I've been told.
