In praise of.... penetrating oil

I couldn't find plusgas, so went with 3 in 1 penetrating spray. I took the seatpost out, sprayed some down the seat tube so that it dripped into the BB shell, sloshed it around and waited ten minutes. The cranks and pedals had similar treatment.

I'd already spent a fair bit of time, effort, and swearing trying to get the BB and pedals out, so this was a final attempt before taking it to the shop and hoping that they could do something not involving heat and that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

So, after 10 minutes, I tried again with the BB: still, no movement, so I push harder on the spanner.... and suddenly the BB turns!! Same on the other side, and on the LH pedal. I love this stuff :D

Yep, plusgas is still available, i bought my last stuff from my local motor factors, 3in1 also good as OP said.

Amuses me when people use WD40 as a dismantling fluid, it's pretty much useless and only good as a "Water Displacer formula 40"

plusgas is amazing stuff we get it by the box load, i work for the gas board and it gets the stiffest 80yr old bolts of mains with ease!

Good news... I love plusgas (and lamp, obviously... )

Just got to persuade the RH pedal to come off now!! The flats have rounded so the spanner just slips... any ideas?
