I had same problem re Sorry we don't have a 1" fork thread tool anymore , so off i went to a very traditional shop and less than 5 minutes later its sorted

Thanks for the offer. The problem is it seems an odd ball size on the old Calton cobra I am fettling. The thread on the steerer is not 24 tpi . I have ran up a old lock nut from my junk box . No idea what it cam off. Maybe it's 26 tpi all very frustrating. I dropped a pm to spokesman to see if he knew ,and he had similar

26tpi is an East German or Raleigh standard. Being a Carlton, I'd go with Raleigh, which is basically JIS except for the threads.

Bloody kids in shops these days would think "Sheldon Brown" is a "colour way" for the new season of bikes made by Santa Cruz.

For good reason.
A decent one is expensive, and even in a busy shop it would struggle to earn its keep. Maybe we use ours once, but service over 1000 bikes a year.
