"Using Italy as a comparison FFS. These people voted for Berlusconi!"

Ah, the arrogance of the right on. An entire nation ( or a bloody big slice of it) held in contempt because of the political choices they made

Well spotted that man. What took so long?

The irony was supposed to be staring you in the face.

I was really hoping not to have to revert to smilies.

Well, you are dealing with people who seem to be only able to see in black and white, even though they hold up a system where grey is the way forward...

And again with the arrogance of the right on..........

i do find it rather ironic that the people saying protest is a good thing seem to want everyone to conform to their way of thinking.

Anyway we are flogging a dead horse here because we're not going to agree about it, but thats the beauty of democracy isn't it.

I think protest did pretty well against Vietnam, Apartheid, Poll Tax and any number of regimes.

Not going too far back at all.

Perhaps this is just a case of education and self awareness.

Those were all protesting against very clearly defined things though, they don't really have a real rallying point. I saw an interesting article in the economist that support for the occupy movement is down 3% it has fallen below support levels for the tea party...which i think says it all really.

When you fall below the borderline racist rednecks in terms of public support, i think its just going to fade out.

See, that's all we need.....a bit of education..........and self awareness...perhaps some self critique ala the cultural revoulution....... I refer the hounourable member to my previous post...........

In absolutely no doubt about the efficacy of protest, you are,of course, correct. But the examples you gave were quite narrowly focussed, which was perhaps why they were effective.
The problem with this latest round of protest is that it seems to be wooly and diffuse in the extreme. None of them seem really to be sure what they're annoyed about.

 i wouldn't say that too loudly, the current government would probably use it to re impose poll tax in a heart beat.

Which would be a thoroughly good thing imo.
