Anybody seen that vid on youtube of a woman beating her 8 month old baby for nearly five minutes that is sort of doing the rounds?

Absolutely appalling!

I won't link it but search Malaysian Mother Beating Her 8-Month Old Helpless Baby and take it from there. Not a lot shocks me but this was nasty and cowardly to a new level.

I certainly won't be watching it, but....

You have to ask, what sort of person stands by and films it on their mobile (or whatever) rather than intervening?

What kind of world do we now live in that a witness will film a shocking incident to post on the web, as opposed to do something about it?

What kind of priorities do you have when your first reaction is to think "how many hits will this video get" instead of trying to stop the kid getting whacked.

I can say that the last time I saw a mother smacking her kid round the head in a town centre - I said something to her she didn't like. It didn't even occur to me to film it.

It's always easy for a bigger person to hurt a smaller person, it is what being a bully is and furthermore for anyone that has to resort to violence to get their point across, simply has not advanced enough to have learned violence begets violence and is not a future that leads anywhere for the majority.

But I do hear of so many atrocities being captured in moving imagery, but I never feel the need to go and look myself, as I don't need to seek out negativity when there is already enough of it without seeking it.

I remember a pal during the Iraq war, he had gun camera video on his smart phone and used to love showing people, and to hear him commenting as people watched, it was just sickening, for he just didn't see it, it was almost like a video game to him, not a real living person who probably didn't want to be in a war about to be machine gunned to bits. He stopped doing it when I told him if his proud belief in his religion allows him such despicable morals that he can find entertainment in the killing of a people, then I am glad I am a heathen.

Glad she's in jail. Hope she understands why !

I was at a Hare Krishna meeting once (long story) and was impressed by this Guru who was very calm and speaking about this and that...........well his wife and kids were there...........and one of his daughters about 6 years old interrupted his calm speech so he lent over and grabbed her by the hair and dragged her across the room to get rid of her, then carried on as if nothing had happened !

That was one of many things that lead me to not wanting to be part of organizations and religions that claim to be all relaxed and love to everyone.

Sad thing is that i could see the shock on other peoples faces, but in certain old Indian books it says parents are allowed to chastise their children in many ways, like hair pulling and tying them to a tree to punish them with kindness

There are other ways to show a child they need to ajust behavior.......try a cuddle !

Nice open minded comments as usual.

Seems to me that she is suffering from Post Natal Illness.

If she truly wanted to harm the baby, would she have gone to the trouble of using a pillow?

Many thousands of new mothers struggle to cope, we're lucky that in this country there are mechanisms in place to help them get through. Maybe the woman in the video isn't so lucky.
