How long does sealant last?

How do you get the old crap out? Is it scrape/ peel it kinda thing...or is it soluble in something?

Sorry for all the questions, but everyone tells me its a game changer, but im very uncertain as to the benefits/ pain factor..
Scoop and people. IPA helps.

I use a large syringe to suck out any liquid for reuse. Any large lumps are picked out and I leave the rest. The only bits I’d ever pick off are dried bits on the bead which might stop the tyre sealing well next time.

Disagree with D8monk about gravel use, I think it’s well worth it. Without running thick tubes, I’m sure I’d snakebite puncture all the time on gravel rides, but then I suppose it’s also down to how you use the bike. Road bike currently set up tubeless but I think next set of tyres I might change to TPU tubes. I’ve only punctured once with current set up but it wouldn’t seal and at road pressures the emergency plug just blew out. Was only half a mile from and walked home. Fixed it with an internal patch and it’s been fine, but out in the wilds it’d have been a messy repair.

Cheers guys food for thought. My main issue here is thorns. Especially as they have just done all the hedge cutting after harvest.

2 yesterday...standard tube, but with 2 pump stops made it home!😂.

I do carry patches and a spare tube all the time ( always have after a 7 mile double puncture many years ago). So i was just wondering if for off road (where the hedge bashing is worst) if tubeless will help.

Got to say, im not that keen on the maintenance side of the idea, but im not going to rip a tyre where i live and so maybe for thorns etc it might be a toss up between the pain of multiple punctures vs the pain of dealing with sealant!😂

I suppose it would be 70g lighter too over my 160g continental tubes....although at my age and decreasing ability....a weight weenie im not!

Cheers for the insight

I may end up going back to tubeless yet. It’s early days but no punctures so far.

For the road , I see no point. Can’t remember the last puncture I had. And at road pressures / widths the tyre is going to go down faster than it seals anyway likely resulting in a right mess.
