How do you remove a star-fangled nut??

Thanks for the replys guys.

Not worried about damaging it as it's going to be replaced :) seems to have a very large bolt hole, much larger than the one's i have ever seen.
I can only assume it's one from a D/H bike as the steerer tube is one from a Z1.

Usually I use a long bolt screwed right down and my rounded long allen key, pop it in the bolt hole and tap it down, it'll drop out of the bottom of the fork. Works the same for the top usually but it may resist alot more.

Just hit off centre on the tabs from the top. It will rotate and end up sideways in the steerer. You can then knock it out the top from the bottom with a long screwdriver. You wont be able to re-use it but they only cost a few quid anyway.

Be careful with the bashing.

I tried knocking through a SFN on a set of Reba forks.

Long storey short ..... It's stuck an inch from the bottom and has flared the steerer so that it now catches on the lower cup of some headsets :?

bugger.

Are you sure the steerer hasn't cracked? Assuming its aluminium I wouldn't have thought it would flare it that much!
Bt I'm not an engineer :)

Personally I would always drill out. I have some forks that have two in and it's annoying!

Bang it all the way through. My lbs was lazy and just move it down a bit to fit a new one, so now I have two and more if a headache if I need to replace the newer one.

Hate sloppy mech stuff like this... Like when my old xt headset locknut got rounded off By my local lbs with a poor fitting spanner...! Doh!
