Gil Scott-Heron

Aged 62? ..that's gotta be at least 110 in 'junkie years', bless him.
I once walked for hours to see him, following some bad directions, only to find that he wouldn't be performing -having been busted just before the gig

Sad news

Maybe be nice to spend a few hours celebrating the guy.

Sad news indeed. Once had the pleasure of cooking him a meal as part of his gig rider. Nice chap and a great performer.

@ HF, absolutely -not quite sure what point you're making? I've always had great respect and empathy for the guy as an artist and human being. His honesty over the years has been insightful and moving; I'd challenge anyone to not sympathise with his continual battle with drugs ..a plight so easily dismissed by those fortunate enough to not relate.
...Which is why it's quite remarkable that he managed to live as long as he did, good on him. :)

Just not sure how relevant it is in paying tribute.
Not sure I was intending to pay tribute, just commenting affectionately about an artist I really liked.
But you're probably right, just posting criticisms of anothers response is a much better way of 'paying tribute'
