A thought occured to me.
Pop the spring in the mech body.
Use some needle nose pliers or equivalent and pull the spring round to where you need it.
Slot cage into spring, remove pliers as cage should now hold the spring and push it down.
Sounds simple in my head anyway.
I remembered I've got to do an x0 mech which I sold along with a replacement cage. It was returned with a broken spring which it didn't have before, I now realise why the spring may have been broken, the attempt to change the cage perhaps.
