i got into a row with the 'operative' at the tip yesterday cos I tried to rescue another VCR.

it was 'theft' apparently.

Jobsworth. That's what's wrong with my sh*t country i told him.

needless to say, i didn't rescue the video. (yup, I'm still using tapes. )

I agree with you LGF, I miss it all too. Radios with dials that you can fine tune rather than have a garbled digital noise when it's not great reception.

As has been said. The digital backlash has begun. And it started in my front room. I might get a blue plaque for the house. .

Slightly off topic - my mate was rather alarmed at the fact that his local council controlled tip dont allow ANYTHING that takes batteries or has a 'lead' to be resold. It all gets broken up. Radios, freeview boxes, ANYTHING is now broken up.

Neither 'green' nor economically sound.

It will be bikes next via some daft H&S rule

The Sony pictured is 30 years old and just needs a belt replaced...

Cant do that with an iPod.

And it all started with the de-regulation of Solicitors being able to advertise, leading to "No win no fee" adverts then people suing the council because they are an easy target then leading to H&S UK.

So now if anyone bought anything with a lead, plug it in and they injured themselves they will sue the council. For things to be sold on they need to be PAT tested

Blame Labour = Nanny State

Not that I'm particularly bothered, but that's hardly Labour's fault.

PAT testing came in long before they did, and the legal situation isn't a party thing. Blame the USA-ifying of the UK for that, not party politics.

I do realise PAT testing has been around quite a while.

IMO, Labour has contributed quite some way to H&S culture UK. All the extra legislation that was coming in all the time while trying to run a business, this increased the jobsworth H&S boffin attitude. Not that i'm against H&S, but we do take it way too far sometimes.

And do you seriously think the Conservatives would have made much difference in that regard?

All the major parties seem to be variances on some slight themes, rather than poles apart on issues like this.

If Labour hadn't won in 97, I don't think the Conservatives would have done much different in regards to the kinds of legislation we've seen since 97.

You could argue that much of this has been significantly contributed to by key services now being run like businesses, that was instigated by the Conservatives - but then Labour hardly reversed all of that, and did a fair amount themselves.

Where things like this are concerned, they're all as bad as each other.

About as good as it gets with HiFi twiddling:

Then again I'd probably swap a nut for the modern version:

Which brings me to an idea (probably a marketable one) that I've had for a while, anyone good at electronics/midi?

I own a Marantz CD63 KI signature (that my Dad's using). I have a Panasonic Bluray player (IT'S BEEN A LOVE THING BABY over the last 5 days since I bought it) running through a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 2i into an Audiolab 8000A into a pair of Mission 751 Freedoms.

Retro hi-fi, you gotta love it :D.

Marantz CD-63KI - marketing over substance

Mission speakers badged as 'Freedom' - we're fooked and just about to go under, please buy our products

Audiolab 8000A - It only ever liked Spendor BC1, anything else attached, it would simply self destruct.

Please take the above with a pinch of salt!

But its still all true...

There was never the need for a backlash in my front room. My modest little budget system has been there running through Kans since the early 80s. Vinyl + toggle switches FTW.
