French crankset identification

Hi,

Coming from the offroad side of RetroBike, I know nothing about road bikes/components. This crankset was fitted to a vintage MTB that I'm planning to restore. But I'm unable to identify the crankset brand/model. Can you help?

The logo resembles the number 2 inside a gear:


Besides the logo, the inner side of the cranks simply says H2 (date code?), 170 (probably the length in mm), made in France and L/R (depending on the left/right crank):


Etched on the outer side, I seem to decipher a word ending with "ong" (so cannot be Stronglight), followed by the word Micro:


If I took the measurements right, the crankset is double, BCD 86.

A pic of the whole crank might help! Reminds me of the story of the six blind men describing an elephant, where each was touching just one part of it, not seeing the whole shebang.

The only French-made crank I know in 86 mm BCD is Stronglight. There were a few variations in name, material and finish over the years. Yours looks to be one of that last made in that bolt pattern, more recent than the original Mod. 99 that debuted in the '70s.

Wouldn't surprise me to learn SL made some with other company's name on them, in fact we know SL did that with some of their other cranks, labeled Gipiemme or Spidel for example.

I can't find any threads for a grannie bolts, so supposed it's double. But I might be wrong.

On those, doubles and triples used the same bolt pattern, just longer bolts for triple, with 5 spacers between the middle and granny. The granny could go as small as 28t, and a very common setup was 28-38-48

they could be found with steel rings on some Peugeots with the Sachs groupsets
