Festive Frolic Aftermath

MacRetro Rider
And so it came to pass that on a warm Monday morning in the Tweed Valley, 5 intrepid souls decided to tackle the monster that is Glentress

ZigZag, Velomaniac, Hawmaw, KeithyR and yours truly duly met in the carpark of extortion before heading out on a 12 mile - 4 hour epic the likes of which not seen since last time we were at GT

Bikes were a mixture of 29er / Modern, slightly more retro to absolutely rigid and canti braked!

For my sins I decided it was a good idea to take the Heckler which had blown forks and cranks and a rear shifter - no probs I have spares.

So after a swift carpark rebuild we were off into the climbs...

Within minutes we were "blowing out our arses" but making steady progress. After an eternity but in reality an hour we made it to the top carpark, the wind had picked up so we didn't stay for long before heading for a loop of berm baby berm. Then back up to the red, cut to the mast.

Heading down we hit Spooky woods then back on to the blue for the return down.

All in 4 hours, some go pro and pics will be posted later no doubt!

I learned that GT eats brake blocks, that 63mm of travel is not enough and that maybe disks on the Heckler would be better!

That was great, just what I needed after all the shite weather. We took the red up to the radio mast, and then the new trail down to Spooky (Carl's Lane) - lovely bit of track and definitely worth the extra effort. A few highlights, but didn't catch Andy's tumble though...

Re:

Nice video footage, looks bloody amazing up there! 8)

Even Mrs Muz loved it, and she don't even ride a bike! Or much else these days!

Did I hear the rattle of a loose headset at the start?

Did you have some kind of chest strap to hold the GoPro on? Looks a lot better an idea than helmet mount. :xmas-cool:

And finally, I was waiting for that Garmin to fall off! Thankfully it just rolled around on the stem a bit

Thanks for sharing :xmas-wink:

Cheers Mike, I don't think it's the headset, more likely just wind noise from the mic - sounds are a bit muffled since the camera is sealed in a waterproof housing. I use a chest strap, I prefer the end-result, you get a better impression of the actual ride. Plus there are endless 'man-bra and boob' joke opportunities. I really need to replace those zip-ties on the garmin mount though

Mike

Aye, it looked pretty desperate to get away!

Good vids Aaron. What bike were you on? I was expecting to see the Rooster.

Anyone got any photaes?

Re:

I'm going to have to get up there one of these days, preferably in the Summer and meet up with you boys!
I agree about the camera position, thankfully I don't have moobs, so a strap on  won't wobble too much !

Gave the Rooster the day off, wanted a bit of comfort and bounce - think it was the right choice, don't feel too badly battered today.

We got a group pic at the bottom of Spooky on Andy's phone, but that was it.

Re:

That video shows the difference between the 26 and 29", where I'm brake checking and running my foot out on hooky old tyres you're just coasting through ZZ

Re:

On a good day, my party piece is dragging my hand along the ground on the berms while clipped-in on my Blue Pig 26'er, while eatin a piece with the other hand 8)
