I took a gamble and bought this...

It's nothing special as far as I can see, but for £37.50 I'm not complaining. In fact I quite like it. But I think "mid-range" is a fair assessment and I'm not sure the Columbus stickers are original to be honest... but then who knows?

I put the Wrights saddle on. Trying to resist the temptation to wash and tidy it as right now it's the perfect theft-proof "pub" bike.

If anyone has any idea what this is I'd be glad to hear it. Gears date it to around 1988. Needs a set of Accushift thumbshifters. Anyone?

Certainly circa 1987 - 1990 when rear U brakes were all the rage. Thought it was a Raleigh (Ozark or similar) but they were lugged and had Raleigh embossed on the seat stay caps, the same with Dawes. The rear seat stay arrangement is unlike Muddy Fox as well. Could be an old Univega Alpina or Diamond Back.

Peugeot is possible. Rims and hubs are French (Maillard/Rigida). Although they probably aren't original as both front and rear are a good few millimeters too narrow for the dropouts. Must pop some washers in there... With the gears I'd expect a Suntour hub with Accushift cassette rather than the Maillard hub that's on it now.

Have fitted new (3TTT Inglese) bars and a long Kalloy Uno seatpost. Now it fits me and I have to say I really like it. It's not too slow considering I'm more used to a road bike and it's a lively yet relaxed ride. Of course, the fact that the sun is shining certainly helps...

Next up is new road tyres as the current ones have no grip in the corners. Panaracer Pasela TG 1.75 should be a good compromise for London streets and potholes.

I'll get some photos up of the mods I've done. The original black alloy ITM bars are for sale if anyone wants them. Quite nice, but not me. £10 posted UK or swap for a set of Accushift thumbies!

Here's how it looks now. Getting better although that rear light looks a bit daft. Vintage Lyotard pedals not exactly period correct, but work beautifully. Kryptonite lock and "Ring Me" psychedelic bell are essential urban accessories. Wrights saddle is on it's last legs but really comfy...I won't be saying that when the leather gives way. :?

I might have to give it a wash, after all.
