Early Mantis Sherpa circa 1983

Very cool early Sherpa. Serial number is 002 but I am not sure if that is for all Sherpa models or just the 23" frame size. Many more pictures and details @ http://mombat.org/MOMBAT/Bikes/1983_Mantis_Sherpa.html

The ridged fillet brazing is a neat touch as is the Mantis-built stem with the cable pass through on the removable face plate.

Do you buy these amazing bikes or acquire them through donations and suchlike?

Out of all of our bikes, about a half dozen are on "semi permanent" loan, all the other belong to us. Many of them, including this one, were acquired years ago when they were only bringing a couple hundred bucks...........AKA "the good old days"!

Blimey

...now that really is retro. Truly a beautiful and interesting bike - I'd swap a kidney for one of those. Hell, I'd swap both my kidneys for one of those.
