Bargain.

I'd always wanted one after using them at various places I lived or stayed and was about to buy earlier this year when, by good fortune, I was given one that was going to be scrapped because one of the elements had died. Seems mad but it was cheaper for this place to buy a new toaster than buy an element and have to pay for an electrician to fix and test it (used by the public, so all had to be done by the book). I would have bought this one here, otherwise.

My tips for the lucky buyer of this:

Preheat it for about 20-30 seconds before putting bread in. This is suggested by Dualit but nobody ever reads the destructions, do they?

The rear left foot is height-adjustable so it can be stabilised on uneven surfaces.

Although just one element had died, I replaced all 5 just so I knew they were all starting from the same point. I bought genuine Dualit ones from here, other places are available. Poss not worth bothering with cheap copies.

The connectors on the elements require a 4BA spanner, a standard tool but probably not something that everyone has at home, so it's worth getting one in anticipation. Plenty of good, old ones (Bedford, King Dick etc) on eBay.

Happy toasting!

Thanks for that, some info there I wasn't aware of. Preheat, huh. I guess I didn't RTFM. Or maybe I did and subsequently forgot. I may try that, assuming it doesn't sell quickly, and see what difference it makes. Either way, I think I've at least semi successfully been toasting bread on and off with it for 25 years+ ;)

Also used as a Ryanair hand baggage gauge.

Got one, they last forever, are repairable and toast more evenly than any other toaster I've used. A great piece of engineering.
