Double build: Zaskar and P7 RS

Finally got out on the zaskar for a proper run- 23k of hilly road. Rides great, forks sorted, gears a bit clunkier than Id like so will have a fiddle about before making a decision on what to do there. She's a headturner that's for sure- kids at work (under 12's!) loved it!

In other news the forks have arrived for the pace build- Im a couple of mechs short of all I need there I think...

Blooming eck! i was replying to this over an hour ago then suddenly had four family members turn up unexpected  so all quite again now  .

That's great news about the Zaskar 8) as for clunky gears well maybe a change of chain is in order say something like a Sram 8 speed or similar just might smooth things out a bit better and 11 + year olds liking your bike just goes to show that your mrs was proved wrong yet again  ..

That Pace looks the Dog's so yes i certainly approve on your new purchase 8) and i'm actually feeling a tad jealous  and it shouldn't be too long going by what you need for the Pace build and if their the forks for the build that i see fitted to the pace then i have to commend you on an excellent choice as they look superb :xmas-cool: :xmas-cool: ..

^ missed that somehow- yeah they the forks I have for it- should look great, if the 700c wheels make them/it look wierd I might go with straight 26's... Maybe I should stick to function over form for once though- I need a roady more than another xc. Hoping I'll be able to complete the build on the pace next week...

Anyhow, little update on the p7 and zaskar: have a lovely pair of fir rims laced to xt hubs coming for the p7- not quite period correct but manufacturer correct if I remember right: pretty sure this orange would have come with fir rims, my older one certainly did.

Zaskar wise I have a 7 speed grip shifter coming by way of the very kind markusdave- may add a wide range 7 speed cassette too if the shifts are still off. Confident that will sort if though, assuming six and seven speed spacing the same, which I think they are?

You'll probably have less hassle sticking with 26" wheels mate so that's the route i'd go down ..

Fir rims with xt hubs will look excellent and as long as their manufacturer correct i can't see their being any issues especially for the orange so i'm looking forward to the next update on those ;) ..

Theirs now't wrong with the old 7 speed grip shift's as i had some in the past although they were slightly clicky but the initial gear change was pretty smooth and you might not need a wide range 7speed cassette as i don't think mine was or come to think of it mine might of been an old 13-32 as for spacing i don't think their is much difference either so that shouldn't be an issue tbh ..

It's a tricky one on the pace- I know I'll like the wheels and tyres I've just picked up for the maxlight better on it but without making it a roady I'd have too many bikes of the same sort- the p7 and/or the maxlight would have to go, and I don't really want that. I bought the frame to replace the black roady p7 so will stick to that idea at least at first... Until I decide I can sell something maybe!

Yep stick with the roady idea as i'm sure it will work out just great with that stiff frame it should make a really swift road bike and look excellent to boot ;) ..

Well either it's a trick of the light or you've changed the pedals and i'm loving the straps although i've only ever used toe clips tbh but after seeing the straps i may be tempted to fit some to my junker when i build it ..
