Double build: Zaskar and P7 RS

Right, the zaskar has been ridden! Went a similar route to earlier but avoided the rocker bits. Its great on the road- Ann easy ride. The bars are very wide which at first threw me but quickly got used to it. My combination of 10 speed rear mech, 6 speed chain and 8 speed shifter worked a charm too! First time with gripshift- I quite like it. Was batter in the !if than I expected with those tyres too. Oh, and I got chased by two dogs... Exciting times!

How lovely knowing the Zaskar is being sorted again 8) ..

It would be great to see the P7 stay after all that time of having one as i'm certain it will feel strange without one but on the other hand you've had the experience of owning and riding one and if you sort the max light out to use on the mtb routes then it should do job nicely and like you say it's more a case of building up the RC300 and then deciding where you go from there as you can have too many bikes which would leave the less favoured ones just gathering dust which would just be a waste so it's just a case of mulling things over after you've ridden your bikes a bit to see what suits your needs best although if i'm honest if i was given the chance i'd never of got rid of any bikes i'd had over the years except for the hybrid that i owned as i was never really taken by it tbh ..

The irony is I think the P7 is probably the best all round ride I have- you can see why people still like them!

The Pace build will be something entirely different- basically a road bike. That said I could just switch wheels if I wanted to take it offroad, though it seems something of a waste having the other ones if I do that... Basically Im spoilt!

Going to take the zaskar on my long commute home tomorrow to see if I can still manage it with fatter tyres and half the gears!

The Zaskar sounds great! which is no surprise due to it's triangle frame design and the aluminium tubset being designed to give maximum rigidity which is excellent for transfering power from the pedals to the rear wheel and i prefer wide bars for the extra leverage you can gain to push down on the pedals but as you will have realised wide bars can feel a tad twitchy ;) ..

I'm glad the gears worked out okay as you never can tell if certain set ups will be a total mare but you've obviously got a decent set up with the grip shift as i know how good grip shift can be when set up right but it can also be a pain when it comes to changing cables and yes those tyres looked more than upto the job so i'm really pleased they were more than upto the job 8) ..

Yes the P7 has lots of fans which is probably down to being a good all rounder like you say so it's no wounder you've had one over the last 20 years but unlike you and most mtb enthusiasts i've never ridden one  as i've only ever owned a few mtbs mainly being Muddy Fox and Saracen although i've owned a Diamondback and Schwinn besides and i've only just this last 12 months got my 1st Kona and Raliegh mtb's ..

The Pace i imagine will have a very stiff frame indeed going off it's design so should feel similar to the Zaskar but only you will know for sure out of the 2 of us but i can see it making an excellent road bike so that's what i'd keep it for although it should still be good for light trail and tow paths if it takes your fancy while out on a ride ..

I bet the Zaskar fly's on the long commute home even with half the gears so even if you find the odd climb a bit of a struggle i bet you love it mate ;) ..

Well the zaskar didn't fly anywhere today- noticed an issue with the front forks that I didn't have time to fix before work. Nothing serious, one of the stanchions had worked it's way up- just needed a bit of working back and tightening. Glad I found it prior to the ride though.

In other news my pace is here!

Damn !! i was looking forward on the ride update and wondered why you were taking longer than normal to do it mate :( but at least that was a possible accident avoided so i'm glad you spotted the issue before setting off to work so that's the Zaskar sorted again then ! .

Don't tell me you've got the the Pace without a pic as that's just teasing me :( but i'm still thrilled to see it's arrived but a pic or 3 would be appreciated ;) ..

It's currently in hiding... I'm sure you understand... Will update with pics and a new thread when coast is clear!!!
