I am afraid you are just lucky.

Whatever way you want to interpret it.

i'm not really interpretting it anyway, i'm just saying.
some of the roads i ride on around my area are main A roads with LARGE volumes of heavy goods traffic (mostly quarry lorries) .

i don't have my music on so loud that i can't hear anything, just loud enough to be able to hear over the sound of traffic.

i'm not saying that i'm the perfect cyclist but i must be doing something right despite wearing headphones whenever i cycle.

Like I say, you are just lucky.

The law of averages will attend to you in due course, unfortunately.

Best limit fate's opportunity and stop wearing headphones.

well if the law of averages states that i will have an accident why stop wearing them if it's going to happen anyway?

i'd rather get knocked off and have some tunes to listen to while i wait for the ambulance than listening to the sound of traffic.

I followed behind a woman on her road bike for about two miles today before she noticed I was there.

I chatted to her a few miles down the road as we had a toilet break, and she had no idea we were there.

I suggested she get a mirror if she was not going to look back more often, and perhaps changed to a different style of headphones so she would hear more external noise.

Whatever anyone has to say on this, you are making a very dangerous undertaking a great degree more dangerous wearing anything that removes part of one of your most important senses.

Years of cycle courier work, years of bike messenger work, years of cycling and driving all over the world, all without major incident. Means nothing.

No room for complacency.

None.

People are dying out there.

well you're saying that with the law of averages it's going to happen to everyone at some point.

so regardless of wether or not I wear headphones or not.

i'm not advocating the use of headphones whilst cycling, just stating my views.

Something bad will happen to all of us at some point.

You have a lot of say as to how bad it is.

Being responsible and safe throws you back in the area where you will have to be unlucky to suffer the heavier hand of fate.

Common sense really.

Or so I had thought.
