quickest and cheekiest flip i have seen for a while

bike finished without bids so probably made a cheeky offer

then relists the bike at double the price :shock: :shock:

if i had of had the £475 original price at the time i would have bought it though

The shoosh does dribble on a bit, but hes adamant he not selling the bike for anything like the price he paid thats for sure, sheesh shoosh

My thoughts exactly.

If he can sell it for double what he paid for it, without ripping the buyer off in the process, then good on him for getting the bargain in the first place.

I don't moan at Morrisons when they sell me a loaf of bread for £1 that they paid 17p for..

you get me wrong dear people, i have no issue with it. it is my opinion that the mark up is somewhat excessive, but as you say fair play to him if he gets it.

I would be happy to pay the original price, I would feel a proper charlie however rocking up on a bike saying i paid £850 for it on ebay and then someone telling me oh yes that bike sold the week before for £450ish. It would spoil my enjoyment of the bike from then on i think.

I do think the price of retrobikes is getting a bit silly though and this sort of thing does not help

cost or raw materials to Morrissons for a loaf is say 15 p, they then have packaging, marketting, premises wages and a whole host of other overheads, that is not to say they do not make profit but it is not a fair comparison.

If you see prices trending up it is past time to buy. The bike was a bargain for the price he paid. He gets to ride it and possibly sell it for profit. A bit over priced now but he is taking offers.

I say use your knowledge and get in on the bit. I am trying, unfortunately I have a tough time parting with anything I buy. Buy up these bikes you see listed a bit too cheap with nice parts on them. Split them or flip them. You get the bonus of sizing up all those tasty parts and stashing away the best bits for your own self.

If a seller combines shipping and has several decent items for auction load up. You have an advantage by buying multiple items. I have been buying everything I can lately. It's enjoyable for me, I have some knowledge in the area and I know I could make a profit selling some of my purchases.

I took a bit of a chance on a set of poorly listed wheels. Still haven't shown up and I'm hoping that's just dust on those Hope hubs. Advertised as '26" Mountain Bike Wheelset' it didn't appear in my searches for 'Hope' or 'titanium' but they are Hope Ti hubs apparently with Union-Marwi ti-dye anodized titanium spokes. I was the only bid ($150 starting bid - not a total steal but there is potential for profit).

I didn't really need a wheel set but I'll take a chance the seller was too lazy to do anything but wipe the dust and cobwebs off the Hope logo. If they clean up I know I can sell them for more - but once again I will probably just hang onto them.

You're pleased with that one, eh? And so you should be.
I don't get the impression that retrobike prices are going up; exactly the opposite TBH. Very rare examples maybe, but generally,, good condition, well used but well maintained bikes are going for peanuts, as everyone switches to clown bikes.

I'm a little worried actually. Why would you not take 10 minutes to wash the wheels off? They don't look so hot but hopefully it's dust. Just trying to point out a poorly listed item that may be a bargain - but it's not like I stole them for $195 shipped.

Haven't really watched prices of these old bikes and parts over the years and I imagine it is a cyclical thing. Us mostly old duffers who remember these old bikes and parts fondly have a bit of money now. As long as we can still ride the market will remain but I don't think we are at a fall off point yet. Beyond a core group I don't see the fad expanding too much.

Still - there are some great bikes out there for cheap. The market is flooded with old bikes, a lot of them are crap. Mostly trying to advocate people use their passion and knowledge to make a profit while the opportunity exists.
