I just have a job in Scotland because I taken this opportunity in EU, stay pretty close to mountains I couldn't leave without and like English language.
Radoslaw, thanks for your post. It addresses the issue well; the depiction of your country folk is total ba's.
If there are some drunken guys who happen to be talking in their native tongue and are hammered outside a bar, what difference is there between them and drunk Brits, other than where they happen to be from?
Ever tried sitting down and getting drunk with them? I do all the time, and the few guys who don't speak so much English are just as good a laugh as anyone else.
There have been Poles in my life for as long as I remember. Girlfriends, co workers, employees, bosses and plain old mates. I don't recognise the crap being written at all.
The Poles have so much in common with us Scots and we are a perfect fit culturally. It just works. We love them here, and would not be without them, they are part of our culture and society, one hundred percent and we need them. They are also part of my family, having married a couple of my lucky cousins. Our best friends at the Scottish end of things are mainly Polish and my kids spend their time with their Polish pals, even a boyfriend who may one day become my kin and I would be delighted.
If you want a stereotype about Poles I will happily indulge. Hard working, trustworthy, well educated, team players, great laugh socially, friendly and considerate.
There are at least one or two of those facets I would find hard to apply to some of my neighbouring country folk.
It is all good, and if you are lucky enough to have some Polish people in your town get to know them. Try learning a little Polish, show them we are not all close minded little kill joys.
My life was saved by a Polish girl who found me in my bed with a head injury and insisted on taking me to hospital, despite the fact she was working illegally at the time, a long time ago in London.
Salt of the earth, just about all of them I have known.
Scotland needs more immigrants, so come one come all! Even more English as long as you promise to vote for the SNP...
