ps FMJ i find it ironic that you feel the need to start name calling '' muppets'' on a UK subject matter as you live in Canada ? Unless you have recently visited the UK i would say that you are trying to talk about something in the UK that you know nothing about..........now that could be interpreted as shouting ones mouth off........in it !

At this moment I'm at work in a city named Brampton. Look it up. You'll find it's 43% Indian, so as far as your asertations about me not being entitled to speak about immigrants and assimilation (wherever that might be) is unfounded, and you are cordially invited to bite me.

BTW, which one's you?

And on an added note, I only know one Pole. He competed in the Olympics (bobsled), is a graphic designer, rides road + MTB, and drives a RS4 Avant. Can I ASSUME all Poles are like him?

and illegal imigrants too...it's about numbers that are too big to fit in a small area, that is already filled with numbers (people) that are already here and need jobs. That's my main issue, period. Just imagine if the whole of Birminham decided to move into a small cornish town. I'm proberly wasting my breath here ....

Do you have figures for this? I was under the impression that UK numbers were dwindling, not massivley but not growing either? Certainly those of working age? BTW this was something I heard I have no facts.

That's the exact same situation as here kaiser (no hard numbers to give). Internal growth is actually dwindling...........and all the while we have the same kind of muppets bleating about immigrants as you. They just have a different accent and tend to use words like aboot. The only issue I have is queue jumping. Wait your turn, and go through legal channels, but that's more an issue of fairness.

My mother moved to the UK from Sweden in the sixties, and had the audacity to work continuously whilst never claiming state benefits, meanwhile paying taxes, finding a husband from Yorkshire, starting a family and having three children.
After contributing to the economy and her local community, whilst keeping out of prison and away from the law, never standing in doorways whilst drinking and swearing at the natives using abhorrent and intimidating Scandinavian expletives, she thankfully retained her Swedish passport and moved back to Sweden a few years ago.
As the product of an immigrant I obviously feel like I don't belong here either, even though I was born here.

Seriously though, the UK has a long history of migrants from other countries over a couple of thousand years, from the Angles and the Vikings, to more recent influxes from the West Indies and the EU.

Our identity as a nation is based on this incredible variation in cultural influences. To deny that is very narrow minded and ignorant.

To blame 'others' for a nations problems is very unhelpful and intolerant.

As a footnote to this post, although there is an off-topic section on Retrobike, I don't necessarily agree with some people's belief that 'anything goes' on here.
This is a forum with members from all over the world, and it's about old bikes.
Perhaps a little more consideration of this should be taken into account before such divisive and potentially volatile threads are started.

There are plenty of other forums available which primarily discuss politics, world affairs and wheelie bins...

Dry stone Paul.....it was a BBC news item that I and others don't agree with, do you want to censer the BBC now !!! Freedom of speach is another thing that seems to be on the decline in the UK. The PC brigade will have us saying yes to everyone and no to ourselfs every time before long

FMJ did you read the title of this thread........it refered to UK imigrants and UK growth.......... ..........and yes there are figures but i would rather believe (back up with ) with my own eyes and ears and others REAL experiences too........which people seem so ready to question ( head in sand types ).

...and the word '' imigrants ''( headline in news item ) to me suggests all imigrants otherwise i would have specified one nation. But i was refering to the BBC story link

Well i like this site too much to get into childish tit for tat and imagery, so i'm gonna bow out now. Bye Bye
:D

I have to wonder the rational was behind Canadians wading through the surf at Normandy on June 6th, 1944. Apparently (according to your criteria) what was going on in Europe was none of our bloody business, and we should have kept our noses out of it, and left you to the mercies of the people who were trying to emigrate there at the time. </sarcasm>

I'd put a couple of hundred roll eyes emoticons here for dramatic effect, but people seem to have tainted their use recently.

you would be the first to moan if one of us posted up in a canadian politics thread wouldnt you?

and emoticons arent tainted
as i said before, they serve their exact purpose
to add some 'emotion' to a text based forum

That was then ....this is now ! and you still don't live over here.........So please don't try and use nostalia to get a sympathy vote just because i said i was done..........pleeeese..........that's low using the dead without knowing what oppinion they would have today . ( And i know what they would have said about the current situation ). You are ill informed sir. GOODBYE to you and good day.

If I was making mouth-breather, stereotypical comments about immigrants in said thread, you'd have every right to call me on it. A dick is a dick, regardless of geography.
