Cracked Rim

Upto 7p now I think...

IMHO it's a crack - possibly due to a shoddy weld, but there are two interesting scuff marks either side just above the
braking surface which to me indicates some sort of abuse or someone tried to fix it somehow. It looks like the
crack is spreading around the rim, rather than the braking walls which I assume are thicker anyway.

Been digging about online and found these images of SUP welds, ridge and all (ok, on the first pic at at least). Also here's some views on the finish on such welds on Mavic rims

Any further thoughts? I'm making a decision on this...today! Now, where were we, 8p anyone?

Is yours a ridge or a ravine?

Your's looks more like a crack (where say a pin head could be inserted) rather than an unsmoothed weld
edge which should be easily cleaned with some degreaser and a cotten bud.

Now it looks like an unsmoothed weld edge to me :facepalm:

Those last pics make it so much harder to tell now. Still it is not that common for the crack to appear at the weld and propergate along the weld edge. Normally the weld is the strongest bit. I would inspect it after every ride if that "crack" reappears then you know to stop. Something tells me it is dirt in a very messy weld.

It doesnt look cracked at all no, just 'splatter' from grinding aluminium
