Cracked Rim

Like I say matey! I've never seen a cracked SUP rim, so could be worried over nothing.

But you defo' need to check though :?

Re:

Ok that's good to know coz a blow out is bad enough on a quick decent. I'll need to have a peek under the sticker then I suppose. I've a number of wheelsets and this is the first time I've noticed such a 'crack'. My CXP 14s have a similar silver finish and neither my blue Mavic Cosmos (replete with flat-spot on rear) or my red CXP 21s (ditto) have cracks in their anodising. Vintage wheels huh, who'd bother?

these rims are welded at join, they are then machined down to get a decent braking surface thats why weld is not visable on sidewall. i have built hundreds over the years and never seen one crack (inless crash damage).
As Ian says try looking inside if that looks ok you could carefully remove anodising see if crack is in the finish or in the join its self.

Looks like a crack to me. It makes sense that it is immediately adjacent to the weld. My last 217s went exactly in the place you have.
In the 1990s Mavics had a bad reputation for cracking around spoke holes as well.

Re:

Thanks all for your help so far. Awaiting the seller's response to the photos I took last night of the weld area under the sticker. To recap: Purchased on eBay the wheelset comprises of a CXP21 with Shimano 600 (tricolour) hub upfront and the rear (which we're discussing here) which, according to the seller, was rebuilt but unridden with new spokes and again a Shimano 600 hub. Bought to replace the CXP14s on my Graham Weigh (Reynolds 853 with 105SC groupset) Have ridden the CXP14s for a year and whilst they've been strong and reliable (as well as looking cool) they can be a bit odd in crosswinds. Reckon the new set will look the part and should eliminate the handing problems the CXP14s have exhibited. The new set should match my previous CXP21s (second pic) performance wise, which felt lighter on the bike.

Question is...should I keep 'em given the possible crack in the rear rim? Or return and look elsewhere?
