Cracked Rim

Re:

Seller is being very helpful and agrees it could be a crack. Has suggested I get a second opinion locally i.e. LBS. Thing is most bike shops are in business of selling wheels aren't they

Very true

Much like when you wheel in a retro bike

After the oooh's and aaah's they soon turn to the "you really need a nice new shiny one"

In my opinion, which is limited, the picture says it all

If I'd sold them, and you sent me that pic, I'd be thinking out the way forward;

1) Return them for a full refund (it will cost you to send them back though)

2) A part refund, on the basis that 1 is ok, plus the hub and spokes on the damaged one should be ok

Can you source a new rim though?

Why not PM Malcolm on here (user bm0p700f)

He runs the Cycle Clinic in Suffolk, and from what I've read is something of a wheel builder. Maybe he can put a professional view on them?

Many thanks - well drop him a line.

You're thinking exactly along the same lines as me and I have been doing a bit of looking on the old Bay of E. But even if I found a rim NOS I'd have to figure in the cost of having it built as well - No experience in that field.

We must have been to the same shop!

Probably have!

I'm sure the 'world' is crying out for bike shops that don't just try and sell you new bikes

I know there are some around, and even some users on here have them, they just don't seem to be anywhere near me!

Retrobike is about the closest I can get!

Wheel building is an art, best left to the professionals I think (I need to respoke a 27 year old hub and rim, and I know it's going to end up costing me more than I want to spend to get it done properly)
