correct size alloy nipples & spokes marin bikes

Does anyone know of the correct size that marin used on there 1993 bike.
For the EG and pine mountain..red and purple

Length or diametre? Length would depend on the number of spokes and hub/rim combo. If you mean the diametre, Marin used 1.8mm nipples on those bikes just to make life difficult :~)

Hi i've just done this exact job 2 weeks ago on my '93 Pine Mountain, replacing the spokes and purple nipples in the original wheels. Assuming you are speaking of Marin's original built wheels: The original spokes are butted twice: According to measurements i took using calibrated digital vernier they were 2.0mm at the ends (only the thread crest and the elbow at the other end of the spoke), then butted down to 1.8mm for about an inch or so of spoke length from each end, then the middle part of the spoke is 1.6mm. Hence they are quite a lightweight spoke. With the limited time available to me i couldn't find exact replacements. For the rebuild i used DT Swiss Competition spokes butted from 2.0mm down to 1.8mm in the middle of the spoke. The correct purple nipples are anodised alloy and are 12mm in length (always fit new ones). I can't remember what length spokes i purchased but i do recall that the 32 spokes in the rear wheel are all the same length (same length drive and non-drive side unlike some rear wheels). If you want the spoke length i can ask my father to measure the old ones for you 'cause i kept them (bike is located at his place), but it's better if you remove and measure one of your spokes to be sure and in case yours are different due to a rebuild in the past using different hub or rim or maybe Marin used different batches and specs over time. It's always better to measure what you are actually building rather than trust external data and spec sheets. If you are renewing all spokes and nipples it doesn't really matter what diameter the old ones were, what matters is that the new spokes and nipples have matching threads and you get the correct spoke length. I have a 96 Marin Rocky Ridge, the nipples are all breaking, they have a slightly thinner tread to normal bike nipples, your info about them being 1.8mm makes sense - do you know where you can buy these? ebay/amazon etc?

DT Swiss and Sapim make 1.8mm nips. Off the shelf from amazon, st john street cycles, ebay.

Still used for lighter wheels.....i may even have a bag of used marin wheelsmith ones.....will have to check.....stand by....
