"Convert your bike to Automatic"... Oh yeah?

But why would you want this even if it did work  Just pointless to me

by the sounds of it if you freewheel it will put itself in the lowest gear. that could prove interesting on twisty singletrack

We may mock but I've met a few folk who might find that (assuming it WORKS as described) really rather useful. I've explained (well, tried to!) the fundamentals of front and rear shifting to a few people who have NEVER tried to change either the front or the rear (and in one case neither) since acquiring their bike!

Many years ago, I was in New Zealand and I had the misfortune to be broke. This was particularly unfortunate as NZ is a spectacular country, but their TV is shocking, and it meant I had to watch NZ daytime TV- almost entirely infomercials. I forgot them all apart from one -there was an advert for a bike featuring this type of derailleur.

In the way informercials do, it went over the limited information regarding said bike about 10 times alongside footage of people looking down at their downtube mounted shifters and crashing into parked cars* or hitting a pothole and falling off.

The rest of the advert wasn't any better - it listed the bike's other features (a suspension seatpost, fair enough, yet pointless) and amusingly, "Frame Geometry", as in "also comes with a spring seat! And Frame Geometry!". I've yet to find a bike that doesn't have geometry, so am still unsure as to what they actually meant.

The rest of the bike had the usual BSO type stuff on it.

Asking price? $999. "Phone Now!".

*I have actually hit a parked car due to looking down, but that was because of a noise from the BB. So that's totally different!

I've got automatic gearing.

When it gets hard to pedal i 'automatically' change up a gear.
