I was given this bike by a friend's dad a good few years ago to refurbish and use as a work hack because he wasnt using it any more.

But it ended up being put in the shed and left there. I have dragged it out and stripped it with the intention of convering it to a single speed.

However, I have no clue what it is, other than it being a tourer (large wheel clearance and 27 x 1 ¼ wheelset) made by condor in the early to mid 80’s (assumed because of the Suntour arx / vx transmission groupset).

Dunno why or when the decals disappeared but there is imprints on both the down tube and seat tube, But it does seem to be a good quality frame with suntour dropouts and nicely detailed lugs although there is no tube type markings.

Does anybody know anything about Condor bikes of this type from this era as there seems to be precious little info on the web, and not much condor content even on this forum.

What is the consensus – worth restoring or a worthy candidate for a single speeder?

Thanks for looking…

This dates from the time when Condor actually built their own frames rather than sub-contracting out to Italy. At least I always assumed in the 80s that Condor built the frames.

Whether you restore or not might depend on how you convert it to single speed. If you're thinking of keeping it more or less as is but with a new single speed back wheel and chainset then SS away. That way it's easy enough to revert back. If on the other hand you were to buy a pair of new deep V wheels, straight 'bars and all the other "fixie" paraphernalia it would be money wasted I reckon. Better to buy a new off-the-peg fixie.

Condor were reckoned to be good frames back then but a bit pricey - even more so for components. Looking at the transmission it seems like it has little wear so all it would take to get it up and running is a new chain, pedals and some handlebar tape. I'd put new brakes on too because from I what I remember of my old Weinmanns they weren't that good at stopping a loaded touring bike.

It should look good with a spruce up and maybe even a respray.

Mark.

Great, thanks chaps

I am looking at gettin a respray by a mate this colour

Close match with a modern twist.

Also have a pair of Mavic 'Racer' brakes for polishing to install

To be honest, the rest of the componants are in great condition and with a little bit of polish and elbow grease would come up loverly

Would be nice to know what decals to put on it tho...
