When my Mum and Dad's dog died I pestered them for another dog but they made me settle for a cat. He was an antisocial git who showed us the huge variety of local wildlife we had by bringing it back, dead. We never seemed to stop chucking dead voles and shrews in the wheeliebin because of Toby. I do miss him though [He lasted through 16 years of glaring at us and yowling for food and treats and attention, his tail wriggling with indignation]. Looking back we were there to serve him and all his attention craving seemed like some kind of loyalty test.

So Dog then. I'd really like a dog but live alone and need to be at work all day. So now I've started being a volunteer dog walker for the R.S.P.C.A and I love it. We get to wander about on Man n' Dog adventures and roam about looking at things and exploring holes in fields. When I started they told me that they also needed people to befriend cats, which is a contradiction in terms, so I smiled nicely and said that really I was more interested in the dog walking.

Interestingly ginger cats always seem to be friendly, maybe it's a genetic trait?

No need to breed that.. I know a few dogs that would keenly get a cat inside them. And of a few that have.

I like both but have a cat who is fun to own and behaves like a dog anyway!

For those that work 9-5 and go away a fair bit cats are a lot easier to look after, I have neighbours that have cats and they'll happily look after mine when I'm away.
