I just showed my missus that kitten picture, and she coooed.

I showed her the black puppy pic (further up) and she cooooed

It's a draw. End of discussion.

only cats are evr so slightly better.. :P

Cats seem to be winning here. But to all of you you're wrong. A dog is the best companion you can have if you live alone.

Lucky is sat next to me on this sofa. It's just as well he can't read, otherwise he'd be gutted.

I don't get the "cant trust" argument on the cats, they are just predicable as humans, if you push it too much they snap or just ran away. If you adopt the same behavior to a cat as you would with a human you know or don't know, they're ease to comprehend. You don't approach someone on the street and expect them to be gentle and kind just because you want to touch them, right? Or give orders just because you want. You have to get along, interact, get to know and then you'll understand them.
I've "tortured" cats for decades when they needed treatment and never been attacked, and you suppose they could do it with a reason.

anyway..
adult cats are also cool ;D

Na see, even if he could read it, he wouldn't be able to understand it, whereas all these cat posts, were in fact written by cats...

Ferret!
Best of both worlds. Playful like a kitten that never grows up. Minimal exercise needed, enjoys human company like a dog.
Anothdr vote for ferret!! Havent got one, but would love one!! Shouldnt you be advocating the hamster as a choice of pet? Not you personally, but the little furry fellas 8)

If we'd got the ferrets before the dogs I probably wouldn't have any dogs.
Major downside is they stink.
Fantastic animals though (unlike hamsters which are about THE most unsuitable fluffy pet widely available in pet shops).

Cat vs Dog?? Dog.. every time. We've had a couple of really nice cats but they can't compete in the companion stakes with the dogs.
