If we'd got the ferrets before the dogs I probably wouldn't have any dogs.
Major downside is they stink.
Fantastic animals though (unlike hamsters which are about THE most unsuitable fluffy pet widely available in pet shops).

We keep the ferret in a cage in the garden, which we move into the conservatory in mid winter. Have to agree, I wouldn't want him in the house all the time due to the musky smell.

But when he's weasel wardancing all over the place it's great fun.

We had 6 ferrets, rehomed 3 when the work dried up.. so down to 3.

Need to ferret-proof the furniture (and chimney) before they can come in again.. they dug a hole in the bottom of the sofa and all get in there for a sleepy when tired. Tis a 'mare getting them out. And I don't want to lose one up the chimney either..

They love the ball pool though.. and enjoy going for a walk with the kids.

Of course it will when the sheer number of cat lovers drown out the minority dog endurers.

6 ferrets must have been more like a commando assault! :shock:
Never had mine go for the chimney, but he's not much of a climber - won't even go up the cage wire. There again he's from the RSPCA, doesn't get on with other ferrets and probably thinks he's human / alien / something other than ferret.

Not natural for a ferret to live alone.. they are incredibly social creatures and rarely thrive singly.. always exceptions though (and a lot of interaction from the owner helps massively)..

One of our outdoor, brick built, sheds is devoted to them.. they love it on every level..

I agree with the alone bit - the RSPCA tried for three months with 8 other ferrets in different combinations and it didn't work. So we have to be his buddies instead. I suspect he was kept alone from a small kit and doesn't really know what a ferret is!:?

The RSPCA had him a long while as all the fur had fallen out on his tail making him look like a monster white rat. Decent food, less stress and some time has brought it back all bushy.
Goodness knows what the original owners fed him on - he'll eat the ferret biscuits but won't touch meat (raw or cooked) but loves fruit. A vegetarian weasel. :shock:

Ours eat day old chicks.. the ones that are sold for birds of prey.. when we run out of those they make do with whatever cat food the corner shop has for a few days.
Cheap to feed the chicks too, £13 for 250 and ours get 5 a day between them.
