Cannondale fan/geeks needed for Ebay Weirdo {or other bike heads please wade in]

eBay has become so much worse as a seller in the last few years. I've sold on there for over 20 years (just as a personal thing, not business, but a fair number of items over the years), and had very few issues and no negative feedback until recently. I suspect lots of buyers are scrolling on phones not really paying attention, plus people increasingly trying it on because they know it's easy to get a refund.

Case in point - a bloke bought a VHS tape from me (yup, another retro trend...) and complained it wasn't a DVD as expected. I pointed out that it was listed as a VHS tape in the item title and description, plus there were plenty of photos, so I couldn't accept a return. eBay accepted I didn't need to refund him, but they still refunded him anyway.

Anyway, this buyer is either clueless or trying it on, clearly.

Just means the buyer is thick.
I sold an XTR front mech a couple of months ago as ‘for parts or not working’ and the buyer opened a return case because it didn’t work. EBay instantly side with the buyer and he returned it at my expense. I reported him for abusing eBay policies and they eventually refunded me.
Also sold a train set power supply as ‘not working - something rattling around inside’ and the same scenario, messages from an angry buyer asking why I’m selling something knowing it doesn’t work. EBay were more reluctant that time but budged in the end. EBay is great but full of chancers.

I am sure this is frustrating but to someone unfamiliar with it, I can imagine the creases in the stays look a bit disconcerting. Communicating over a distance is another challenge. I would try to save my reputation and offer his money back

You need to be dealing with Customer support, not the buyer.

If you can not prove to CS that it is a feature of the frame then they will issue a refund and return, regardless of what you say.

Best way to liaise with them is by phone, that way you can make your point more clearly. It is however a long winded process.

Do not communicate with the seller anymore due to the nature of their messages, CS will read through all interactions and use that to reach a decision.

good tips thanks

we have sent your grips

regarding the frame we have these second opinions from 3rd party cannondale and bike experts who have seen the original listing pictures and description as well as your provided pictures

"As a Cannondale guy your frame is exactly as described."

"Yes, chain clearance crimping. I looked at the photos on your original listing and it looks perfectly normal, Is he also suggesting that the indent from where the stays where crimped near the BB is a massive dent as well"

we would recommend retrobike forum for help in the future or sourcing retro bike parts

we messaged you twice with advice about the questions you have had about the frame

we don't take kindly too being accused of selling dangerous frames especially when as a buyer you should do some research into what your buying which we have advised to get a second opinion

we can only conclude that you are acting fraudulently to receive a refund with no intention of sending back a perfectly safe and useable frame

as also it seems in our opinion that you have basic knowledge of bicycles enough to know how alloy bike frames are manufactured and using this case to fraudulently play the Ebay returns system

and i hope not BUT also knowing we are also a Community Interest Company/Community Bike Project that fraudulent buyers may think we are easy pickings!!!

unfortunately in this very rare case we have had no other choice but to report your account to ebay customer services

regards Rebike
